A Hand Book (1986) is an artist’s book with an unusual form; each of the 24 pages is a plastic glove. It presents photographs and handwritten survey forms from the computer-mediated “audience participation performance” Biorhythm in 1983.

This book bridges the gap between Biorhythm (1980-84) and Digital Mudra (1986-89). It’s the first piece that features the mudra gestures used in Indian Kathakali dance, which are matched with spontaneous gestures from the Biorhythm photos, a quote from each participant and their thumbprint, as well as newspaper clippings with images that feature gestures.
